Today we unveil the quail.

Today is an important day in the history of Thomasville. Last night, under the cover of dark clouds, two men were seen installing 12 bronze quail statues around downtown. Then today a mysterious box of books appeared at the Bookshelf. We opened it to find the book every man, woman, boy, girl and  beast of Thomasville will want under the tree. It's a children's book for townies of all ages.

"We are getting back to the roots of Thomasville," said Ian Quinton, the quail project's initiator. "This town is nationally known for quail hunting and the plantations surrounding the town are one of our greatest resources. So we are just reminding people who we are as a town."

Fittingly, this book covers the spectrum of characters in our fair town. The genteel Mr. C.V.R. White has flown to town to research why his family of quail has been declining. In trying to find the answer, he runs into Pervis, a redneck pigeon that knows the streets. The two are forced to outsmart ole Misses Stokes, the meanest broad on Broad Street, to get to the geneaological library where they will find some answers.

"Colinus Virginianus is the scientific name for bobwhite quail. And Robert White, well, that's just bobwhite's proper name. It's a mouthful, but if you can say the title of the book, we've taught you something about our native quail population. And maybe even a little something about the character of Thomasville."

So come on down, read the book and then go hunt the 12 lost quail of Thomasville.
